MIL-OSI Russia: More than 7000 shells during the Great Patriotic War were raised from the bottom of the Black Sea

Demining of the Zhan Zhores motor ship, which sank during the Great Patriotic War, has been carried out in the water area of ​​the Feodosiya Bay since the beginning of September. During this time, the Russian Emergencies Ministry’s pyrotechnic divers spent more than 170 hours at a depth of 18 meters. In the most difficult conditions, they carried out underwater technical work to access the fourth hold of the ship. 7,120 explosive objects of various calibers and 6,500 rounds of ammunition were raised to the surface and destroyed. The destruction of ammunition was carried out by means of controlled detonation by pyrotechnics of the Special Naval Detachment of the Main Directorate of the EMERCOM of Russia in the Republic of Crimea.

The operation is being carried out by the combined detachment of the Russian Emergencies Ministry. It consists of 44 personnel, 7 units of special equipment and 7 floating facilities. At the time of the work, part of the Feodosiya Bay water area is closed for the movement of small vessels. The inspection staff of the State Inspection Service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia is constantly patrolling the coastal zone. Demining work will last until mid-October.
