Source: Republic of France in French The French Republic has issued the following statement:

While adapting its device, the BARKHANE force in Mali continues its operations against armed terrorist groups and continues to provide support to partner forces.

In coordination with other actors, the Barkhane Force thus ensured the transport by military plane of more than two hundred Malian soldiers between Ménaka and Gao, where they relieved soldiers of the 14th RIM. The latter, some of whom had been present for two years, were then re-routed to Gao by plane. On September 27, the 1st echelon of the 11th RIM was operational in Ménaka.

This maneuver demonstrates solid cooperation between the various partners of Operation Barkhane and saves precious time for the FAMa, while allowing their movement in complete safety.

During the last three months, BARKHANE has devoted more than 25% of the flight hours of its fighter planes to the benefit of the FAMa and has provided more than a hundred overflights over the sites occupied by the Malian forces. Since July, more than 40 intra-theater flights of the Barkhane Force have transported more than 1,200 Malian soldiers, in parallel with the support given to maneuvers relating to major relief operations at sites in the North.

During this period, the Barkhane Force conducted some sixty joint operations and patrols, that is to say, partnership actions which constitute one of the 3 pillars on which the transformation of the device is based. More than 1,200 Malian soldiers have received operational training. Finally, the Barkhane Force provides significant logistical support to the FAMa with nearly 22,000 liters of fuel, more than 3,600 individual combatant rations, 16,600 liters of water and 450 kilos of rice provided.

Led by the French armies, in partnership with the G5 Sahel countries, Operation Barkhane was launched on August 1, 2014. It is based on a strategic approach based on a logic of partnership with the main countries of the Sahel-Saharan strip ( BSS): Burkina-Faso, Mali, Mauritania, Niger and Chad. It brings together around 5,100 soldiers whose mission is to fight armed terrorist groups and support the armed forces of partner countries so that they can take this threat into account.
