By the end of the year, the capital plans to develop a unified educational program on safe behavior on the roads, which will be used in all schools in the city.

From September 20, the All-Russian Road Safety Week is being held in Moscow and other regions. This year, special attention is paid to reducing road traffic injuries in children and adolescents. Over the past 10 years, the capital has achieved a radical reduction in the level of child mortality and injury on the roads, Sergei Sobyanin wrote in your blog.

The number of children killed in road traffic accidents has decreased by four times – from 12 people in 2010 to three people in 2020. The number of victims decreased by 40 percent – from 1,043 to 634 people.

“In terms of road traffic injuries, the capital is already the safest region in the country,” the Moscow Mayor wrote.

To further reduce the number of accidents involving children and adolescents, a number of measures are being taken in the capital. Thus, an intelligent transport system was launched, which allows automated control of traffic flows. It monitors over 40,000 traffic lights, ground urban transport, over 180,000 TV cameras and 16,000 Smart Crossroads sensors online. In addition, photo and video cameras monitor compliance with traffic rules, they can register 57 types of violations. In total, there are more than 3.6 thousand such cameras in the city. It has been proven that in the places of their installation the number of accidents is reduced by 30 percent. In addition, traffic police officers patrol the roads.

“Step by step we are putting things in order in the taxi. The recently introduced information system “Analytics of Taxi Operations” allows you to control the work and rest hours of taxi drivers, avoiding overwork and excessive fatigue while driving, ”said Sergei Sobyanin.

Over the past 10 years, 271 underground and overground pedestrian crossings have been built in Moscow and more than 2.5 thousand new ground crossings have been organized. They also installed several thousand new traffic lights.

“Every year, together with the traffic police, we analyze the pedestrian routes that children and adolescents actively use. Based on the results, recommendations are developed and implemented on how to make them safer: install a speed bump or a safety island, reduce the permitted speed or organize a new pedestrian crossing. In addition, in recent years, contrast lighting of crossings has been installed near educational institutions, which helps drivers to see pedestrians in time even on dark winter days, ”the Moscow Mayor wrote.

Every year, on the eve of September 1, employees of city services and the traffic police check the condition of the road infrastructure at each educational institution. And by the end of 2021, they will prepare new guidelines for the organization of safe zones within a radius of 200 meters from schools. It is planned that their implementation will help to radically reduce the likelihood of road accidents.

We continue to work with children, they are told about the rules of safe behavior on the roads, the need to look around and refusal to use gadgets while crossing the road. However, studies show that 72 percent of high school students still use their smartphones on their way to school: listen to music or surf the Internet.

“It is necessary not to tire of explaining to children that when crossing the street, you should never use a smartphone. By the end of the year, we plan to develop a unified educational program on safe behavior on the roads, which will be used in all schools in Moscow. And as for the youngest, it all depends on us adults. By waiting for the green light, you are not only saving yourself. You are saving the life of a child who stands by your side and takes an example from you, ”concluded Sergei Sobyanin.
