Coast Guard, first responders to conduct boat drills on Ohio River
Correction: Due to weather the location of the event has changed to Duffy’s Landing Boat Ramp on Utica Pike in Jeffersonville, Indiana.
WHAT: The Coast Guard, federal, state and local first responders are scheduled to conduct law enforcement drills with a commercial towing vessel operated by Falls City Towing Company on the Ohio River.
WHO: Coast Guard Sector Ohio Valley personnel and first responders
PARTICIPANTS: U.S. Coast Guard, Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources, Indiana Department of Natural Resources, Indiana and Kentucky State Police, Louisville Metro Police Department, Louisville Fire Department, Jeffersonville Police and Fire departments, Clark County Sheriff’s Office, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Clarksville Fire Department, North Oldham Fire Department, New Albany Fire Department, Harrison County, Indiana, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
WHEN: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 22.
WHERE: Duffy’s Landing Boat Ramp on Utica Pike in Jeffersonville, Indiana. Law enforcement drills are on the Ohio River mile marker 598 to 603.
NEW ORLEANS – In an effort to maintain maritime incident readiness, the Coast Guard, federal, state and local agencies will conduct law enforcement drills on the Ohio River in the Port of Louisville, Kentucky, Wednesday.
The drills include a wide range of boat tactics and emergency response procedures. Drills will include multiple agency responder boats displaying flashing lights operating near a towing vessel pushing barges.
Media planning to attend should RSVP no later than 4 p.m. Sept. 21 by contacting Lt. Steve Leighty at 502-779-5340. Pending the volume of media, boat rides may be made available to observe the exercise.
