Bogotá (Sep 16/21). In development of the “Memorandum of Understanding between the Republic of Ecuador and the Republic of Colombia for the prevention and investigation of the crime of trafficking in persons and the assistance and protection of its victims” signed on September 14, 2012, and According to the Binational Work Plan 2020-2021, agreed at the VI Binational Ecuador-Colombia Meeting: Strengths and Challenges in the Fight against Trafficking in Persons ”, the“ Conversation on successful experiences, lessons learned and difficulties in the program for the protection of victims, witnesses and interveners in the criminal proceedings of both countries ”on September 16.

This discussion was an opportunity to share good practices and models of care for victims of human trafficking in both countries, as well as the characterization of the crime. On the part of the Directorate of support for investigation and analysis against organized crime (DAIACCO) of the Office of the Attorney General of the Nation, the context analysis and strategic analysis was presented, which allows, based on the association of cases, to make an analysis of criminal networks, identification of routes to concentrate investigative efforts. Likewise, the use of social investigation methods for criminal investigation was shared with Ecuador that allows the review and analysis of procedural information, the analysis of quantitative and qualitative variables of the cases and the association of cases and proposals for prioritization and prosecution – comprehensive investigations as a sample of good practices by Colombia.

The Colombian delegation was made up of officials from the GIT for Crime Prevention of the Directorate of Multilateral Political Affairs of the Foreign Ministry as well as members of the Office of the Attorney General of the Nation. On behalf of Ecuador, representatives of the Victim Protection System, witnesses from the Attorney General’s Office of the State of Ecuador as well as the Ministry of Government participated. The meeting was attended by more than 40 officials from both countries.
