MIL-OSI Russia: Units of the newly formed 20th Motorized Rifle Division of the Southern Military District conducted the first tactical exercises

Battalion tactical groups of one of the formed motorized rifle regiments of the 20th motorized rifle division of the Southern Military District (YuVO) have begun to conduct a bilateral battalion tactical exercise.

Colonel Alexei Gorobets, commander of the guard unit, is in charge of the exercise.

In accordance with the requirements of the commander of the Southern Military District, General of the Army Alexander Dvornikov, the exercise began with bringing the motorized rifle regiment to full combat readiness. The purpose of the exercise was the preparation and conduct of a mobile defense in conditions of the influence of radio-electronic warfare and tactical airborne assault forces of a simulated enemy.

For the first time, the commanders of battalion tactical groups used new elements of battle order and methods of tactical actions.

At the combined-arms training ground Prudboy in the Volgograd region, the counter-sniper combat groups attached to motorized rifle units operated together with the AGS-17 “Flame” grenade launcher crews and the crews of the 2S34 “Host” self-propelled artillery mounts.

Su-25 attack aircraft operated under the control of the battalion tactical group commander as part of the aviation reconnaissance and strike firing complex. The pilots completed the mission in radio silence at extremely low altitudes.

From the opposite side to conduct reconnaissance at a distance above
5 km of motorized riflemen used transport-combat and attack helicopters Mi-8 and Mi-28N.

Also, medical units were involved in the exercise to collect and evacuate the conditionally wounded, groups for restoring communications, aerosol cover, radio suppression of communications.

In the Southern Military District, four bilateral battalion tactical exercises are being conducted at combined-arms training grounds located in the Volgograd Region, Karachay-Cherkessia, the Chechen Republic and at a military base in the Republic of South Ossetia. About 6 thousand servicemen take part in them, about 300 pieces of weapons and equipment are involved, including tanks, infantry fighting vehicles, artillery pieces and multiple launch rocket systems. For the purpose of interspecific interaction, more than 40 aircraft and helicopters of army and operational-tactical aviation have been attracted from the association of the Air Force and Air Defense of the Southern Military District.
