The creation of new elements of the battle order, new methods of action made it possible to significantly increase the component of the services and combat arms in the exercises of subunits and units of the Southern Military District (YuVO).

“In battalion and regimental bilateral tactical exercises, more tasks with the use of units of the combat arms began to be practiced, the number of aviation increased to support the actions of troops at all stages of combat training,” General of the Army Alexander Dvornikov, commander of the Southern Military District, noted.

During a working trip to North Ossetia for the training of snipers of the combined-arms army of the Southern Military District, General of the Army A. Dvornikov set the task for all commanders of the formations to conduct tactical exercises using new elements of battle order and the involvement of tactical groups of units of district subordination of various types of troops and special forces.

“Commanders of battalion tactical groups must be able to competently manage staff and attached units, understand their role and place in modern combat,” General of the Army A. Dvornikov emphasized.

Within the framework of the planned exercises, the commanders of battalion tactical groups will have to demonstrate their skills in managing an aviation reconnaissance and strike complex, using subunits operating on helicopters, effectively using an anti-unmanned reserve and tactical breakthrough groups. Also, at the upcoming tactical exercises in conditions close to combat, motorized rifle subunits will perform tasks in cooperation with counter-sniper combat groups, breakthrough engineering groups, use nomadic mortars, aerosol cover groups and flamethrowers of various powers.

In the Southern Military District, four bilateral battalion tactical exercises are being conducted at combined-arms training grounds located in the Volgograd Region, Karachay-Cherkessia, the Chechen Republic and at a military base in the Republic of South Ossetia. About 6 thousand servicemen take part in them, about 300 pieces of weapons and equipment are involved, including tanks, infantry fighting vehicles, artillery pieces and multiple launch rocket systems. For the purpose of interspecific interaction, more than 40 aircraft and helicopters of army and operational-tactical aviation have been attracted from the association of the Air Force and Air Defense of the Southern Military District.
