Jean-Yves Le Drian, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, will chair the first Ministerial Summit on Information and Democracy on September 24, 2021 in New York
On the occasion of the International Day of Democracy, France reaffirms the importance of preserving a civic space for critical thinking that will guarantee the conditions necessary for informed decision-making.
To that end, Jean-Yves Le Drian, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, will chair the first Ministerial Summit on Information and Democracy on September 24 in New York together with Reporters Without Borders, two years after the launch of the Partnership for Information and Democracy within the framework of the Alliance for Multilateralism.
The Ministerial Summit on Information and Democracy will provide an opportunity to discuss the need for democratic requirements with respect to the regulation of content in order to more effectively combat the scourge of infodemics, examine innovative ways to ensure the economic sustainability of journalism and address the question of a system of responsibility for social media networks and their users.
