Headline: EUROPE / HUNGARY – Pope Francis in Budapest: the Eucharist frees us from false messianisms
Budapest – The Church “comes from the source that is Christ, and is sent so that the Gospel, like a river of living water, reaches the aridity of the world and of the heart of man”. And the apostolic work can always free itself from the risk “of announcing a false messiahship, according to men and not according to God”, if it remains suspended in the gestures of salvation operated by Christ himself in the sacraments, that is, in the work of the One who in the Eucharist he offers himself “as broken Bread, as Love crucified and given” and “reigns in silence on the cross”. Unparalleled to the “powerful messiahs flattered by the world”. Thus, in the homily delivered on Sunday 12 September in Budapest, during the concluding mass of the 52nd International Eucharistic Congress, Pope Francis re-proposed the mystery of the Eucharist also as the source of all authentic missionary dynamism.
