The Flower Jam festival will run in Moscow until October 1.

Saturday and Sunday as part of the festival “Flower Jam” an amateur flower garden competition was held. 350 people took part in it. Many Muscovites who submitted applications admitted that for them this competition is the event of the year. At 18 city sites, non-professional gardeners have decorated 179 flower beds out of more than 8.5 thousand plants provided by the organizers.

The participants included married couples, parents with children and friends. Each team had two people. They could choose 37 plants (one of them is a shrub) of different species, including chrysanthemums, roses, hydrangeas, sage, rudbeckia, hosts, geleniums, catnip, asters, cereals, ferns and other greens from nurseries near Moscow.

This year, according to the rules of the competition, the participants had to have the skills to create flower arrangements. On Saturday, professional florists held a master class for the teams: they told which flowers and plant species are combined with each other, and which in no case should be planted next to each other. Based on this knowledge, the contestants created sketches of their flower beds, and then planted the plants. On Sunday, the projects were defended in front of the jury.

“There were three prize-winners at each site. Two winners, identified by the jury, received digital tablets as a gift. And the audience award and a set of gardening tools from the partners of the competition went to those whose project was voted for by the largest number of guests of the corresponding site, ”said the organizing committee of the amateur flower garden competition.

At the site in Yuzhny Butovo, the audience voted for the composition of Emma Vishnyakova and Valery Larionov “Chamomile”. However, the guests were impressed not only by the flower garden, but also by the participants’ story about themselves. Valery Larionov is 72 years old, and, in addition to gardening, he is fond of sports: this year he has already participated in three marathons and ran 126 kilometers in total.

The festival site in Veshnyaki was remembered by Muscovites for the unusual appearance of the contestants. Everyone was provided with a gardening uniform – branded aprons with the Flower Jam logo, and one of the teams was dressed in their own costumes: the flower garden was decorated by Lisa Alisa and Cat Basilio.

All participants, regardless of their place in the standings, received souvenirs with the symbols of the festival. The created flower beds will be dismantled, and the plants will be planted in the capital’s parks.

Open international competition of urban landscape design “Flower Jam” and the festival of the same name are organized within the cycle of urban street events “Moscow seasons”… They were held in the capital in 2017, 2018 and 2019. In 2019, project participants donated 42 summer gardens, 15,000 flower beds and four new city parks to Muscovites. Then 7.7 million residents and guests of the capital visited the festival venues. In 2021, Moscow opened 35 sites… The festival will run until October 1.
