DETROIT, MI – U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow (MI) and Gary Peters (MI) announced $19,350 in federal funding has been awarded to Comstock Township to recruit and retain additional personnel. This funding comes from the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) grant program.
“Our firefighters put their lives on the line to protect our families, homes, and communities,” said Senator Stabenow. “These new resources will help the Comstock Township Fire Department make sure there is always someone there to answer the call in an emergency.”
“It is important that our fire departments have the resources to continue serving their communities safely and effectively,” said Senator Peters, Chairman of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee. “This grant will help the Comstock Fire Department attract and retain additional staff to keep protecting their community.”
“The Comstock Township Fire Department will use this funding to install an LED sign board on a main thoroughfare in front of the station to help recruit new members to our operation and better engage with the community,” said Comstock Fire & Rescue Chief Matt Beauchamp. “With additional staff on our team, the department will be able to better serve and protect the families in our area and for that, we are so grateful for this opportunity to expand our community outreach.”
