Traveling in French Polynesia, Emmanuel Macron reaffirms the attention the executive is paying to overseas communities at a time when the Covid epidemic is hitting some of these territories head-on.
Since Saturday 24 and until Wednesday 28 July, the President of the Republic is in French Polynesia. This trip marks a new stage, ultra-marine this time, of his tour of France of the territories.
First of all, this trip makes it possible to reaffirm the government’s attention to overseas communities, at a time when the Covid epidemic is hitting some of these territories head-on.
The epidemic and the overseas territories
This trip will allow the Head of State to meet with caregivers and discuss the specific issues of the health system in the Overseas Territories.
Supporting these territories in the fight against Covid-19 is a priority, which has mobilized our military health services for a year; and, more broadly, national solidarity.
The objective of carbon neutrality is another extremely important subject, with the consequences of global warming already being a reality for the French overseas.
Investment and research solutions, coral protection measures, sustainable initiatives for better exploitation of the Pacific will be discussed in particular.
As part of the candidature of the Marquesas Islands for UNESCO World Heritage, discussions will also focus on cultural actions in Polynesia.

Finally, the issue of recognition of suffering and reparation for French nuclear tests in Polynesia will be paramount. This subject gave rise to a round table in July and, following on from this dialogue, the President of the Republic will continue the discussions.
