Lauderdale man charged following Lauderdale crash

Monday, 26 July 2021 – 9:15 am.

A 21-year-old man from Hobart’s Eastern Shore will appear in Court at a later date on charges relating to a single motorbike crash at Lauderdale on Saturday.
At 9.50am police responded to a crash involving an unregistered Yamaha Trail Bike on Bangalee Street. Police will allege that the rider was performing a wheel stand at the time and that the rider did not hold a motorbike licence.
Fortunately, the male rider suffered only minor abrasions from the crash, as he was not wearing a helmet or protective clothing at the time.  He was taken to Bellerive Police Station, where a breath analysis for alcohol returned reading of almost four times the legal limit.
The motorbike which belonged to a friend, was seized by police for a period of 28 days for hooning offences.
Police would like to remind riders that speed and alcohol continue to be factors in fatal and serious injury crashes.  This crash had potential to cause serious injuries and all riders whether recreational or on the road should always wear an approved helmet and protective clothing.
The man will appear before the Hobart Magistrates Court at a later date in relation to drink driving, hooning offences, being unlicenced, not wearing a helmet and using an unregistered trail bike on a public street.
Anyone who witnessed the motorbike in Lauderdale prior to the crash is encouraged to Bellerive Police on 131 444.
