Source: Swiss Kanton Nidwalden News in German16. July 2021 Due to the worsening flood situation, the government council has issued a ban on all ship and boat trips as well as water sports in the Nidwalden part of Lake Lucerne. The ban applies from tomorrow, Saturday, to Monday, July 19, midnight. The procedure has been agreed with the other neighboring cantons. On Friday morning, the cantons of Central Switzerland strongly advised against taking trips with private ships and boats due to the highest level of flood risk on Lake Lucerne. Since the level has risen further in the meantime, the Nidwalden government council has decided to issue a temporary ban on private ship and boat trips as well as all water sports including stand-up paddling on the Nidwalden part of the lake. A corresponding general order has been issued for this purpose. This applies until Monday, July 19, at midnight. The military, police, rescue workers and professional fishermen are exempted from the ban. The ban is for safety reasons, as the impact of the waves can cause additional flooding in danger areas and damage to protective devices and property. The procedure has been agreed with the other cantons bordering Lake Lucerne, which means that the ban applies to the entire lake area. Depending on the development of the flood situation in the coming days, an extension of the ban cannot be ruled out. → For general disposal
