Free city Wi-Fi has been set up in four dormitory blocks of the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation and the Moscow State Automobile and Road Technical University – MADI. The city Wi-Fi network is now active in 166 dormitories of 33 Moscow universities.
In the Russian capital, there are over 20 thousand Wi-Fi access points, not only in student dormitories, but also in parks, cultural and sports institutions, and within the Garden Ring and the Third Transport Ring. The structure of the Wi-Fi network allows citizens to use the Internet without re-authorization.
Free wireless Internet in Moscow student dormitories first appeared in 2015. In 2020, the bandwidth capacity of the Wi-Fi network has been doubled in the majority of domitories, allowing students to use faster Internet to search for educational materials and take online courses.
The locations of Wi-Fi hotspots can be viewed via a special interactive map accessible at the www.mos.ru service.
