The theme for IDY this year is “Yoga For Wellness”. The Indian Embassy in Hanoi is encouraging participants to join the IDY event from their homes.

The Indian Embassy’s Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre will coordinate with various partner organisations in Vietnam to organise a series of virtual Yoga sessions.

The organisations include the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, Vietnam-Indian Friendship Association of Hanoi, Centre for India Studies at the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, Vietnam Institute of Indian and Southwest Asian Studies under the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences, and the Indian Business Chamber (INCHAM) in Hanoi.

The Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre has also been organising a series of virtual Yoga demonstration classes and a lecture series on the benefits of Yoga in the current context. In addition, the Cultural Centre is also organising an online Yoga Quiz for Yoga enthusiasts.

In 2014, the United Nations General Assembly declared 21st June every year to be celebrated as International Day of Yoga (IDY). The declaration came after the call for the adoption of 21st June as International Day of Yoga by the Honourable Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, during his address at the UN General Assembly on 27th September 2014.

Every year since 2015, Embassy of India has been organising IDY events in Vietnam in close cooperation with the provincial governments and various socio-cultural organisations.
