Communiqué from the Council of State

Posted on June 8, 2021

The Council of State is asking the Grand Council (COFIN) for an amount of 5.1 million francs to finance the extension of the “La Côte” site of the Nyon Gymnasium. Rented at the start of the August 2020 school year to open ten classes, this building located in Etoy will accommodate twenty at the start of this year. This increase in capacity makes it possible to cope with the lack of classes that the Canton is facing while awaiting new constructions in Echallens and Aigle. The extension to Etoy will take place at the same time as the opening of the Bussigny Gymnasium and the extensions of the Burier and Payerne Gyms.

Vaudois gymnasiums must accommodate a growing number of students. The very strong demographic increase in the canton with an increase of nearly 25% of the Vaudois population between 2000 and 2015 partly explains this increase, as does the unmistakable attractiveness of gymnasium studies. The consequences of the health crisis and economic uncertainties have also pushed a growing number of students in this direction, probably considered less exposed to the vagaries of the economy.

Extend and extend the rental as a solution to cover the needs

To meet these needs and thanks to the joint work of the General Directorate of Buildings and Heritage and the General Directorate of Post-compulsory Education, the Council of State is requesting 5.1 million francs to allow the ten classes to be maintained. existing in Etoy – “La Côte” site of the Gymnase de Nyon – and the opening of ten additional classes to accommodate around 250 additional students at the start of the 2021-2022 school year. Associated with the opening of the ten classes of the extension of Burier, of the eighteen classes of the extension of the Intercantonal Gymnasium of Broye in Payerne and twenty-two others thanks to the arrangements planned in a new location in Bussigny, this extension of the use of the Etoy building will cover the needs. For the catering area, a training branch of the Orientation and Vocational Training Center is also planned according to the model recently developed at the Yverdon Gymnasium. The cafeteria will therefore offer meals prepared by young people in training for the students and staff.
