Federal Minister of Economics Altmaier held a video conference today with his Swedish counterpart Anna Hallberg, Minister for Foreign Trade and Nordic Affairs. The focus of the discussion was on current trade policy challenges and perspectives for expanding German-Swedish economic relations. Federal Minister of Economics Altmaier: “For us, Sweden is an important trade and business partner with whom we share many fundamental values and have been working closely together for a long time. In trade policy, we work together for open markets and free trade. More than ever, we now need a consistent strengthening of the multilateral trade order and the bilateral EU free trade agenda in order to create fair competitive conditions for our companies and to reduce trade tensions. In the deepening of our bilateral economic relations, the German-Swedish innovation partnership is a fixed and important component. This partnership offers all parties involved a good basis for innovative exchange, which we would like to continue and deepen. ”Traditionally, German-Swedish economic relations are developing very well. Germany is Sweden’s most important trading partner for both export and import. But the Kingdom of Sweden is also an important trading partner within the EU for Germany. The bilateral trade volume in 2019 was 40 billion euros.
