The planting of 22 pines around the mass graves of Soviet soldiers found by Kuban searchers in the Krymsk region completed a large-scale improvement of the memorial at the legendary height of 121.4, which began last year.
The memorial garden at the war memorial “Hill of Heroes” was planted by representatives of regional and regional authorities, veterans, volunteers of the Kuban search organizations, employees of local branches and driving schools of DOSAAF, young search engines, youth soldiers of the Crimean region, Victory volunteers.
Before the start of the action, a motor rally was held along the places of Battle Glory of the Crimean region. Its participants in training vehicles of the local branches of the defense organization of the Crimean and Abinsk regions, as well as the Slavic driving school of DOSAAF, stopped at the memorials and laid flowers at the mass graves of Soviet soldiers.
The main event on the Sopka of Heroes opened with a rally, during which the head of the Crimean region Sergey Les, deputy director of the department of internal policy of the regional administration Alexander Burmaka addressed the audience. Chairman of the regional veteran organization of heroes, Hero of Russia Viktor Markelov, deputy chairman of the regional branch of DOSAAF Alexander Shepelev. Words of gratitude were expressed to the heroes who, at the cost of their lives, liberated the Kuban from the fascist invaders. Flowers were laid at the monument to the Soviet soldier.
After the official part, the volunteers planted pine trees around the mass graves. Evergreen trees are a symbol of the eternal memory of the exploits of those who did not return from the battlefields of the Great Patriotic War.
In those years, there were the most powerful lines of the Wehrmacht on the way to the Taman Peninsula. Tens of kilometers of minefields, hundreds of structures with machine-gun nests, kilometers of barbed wire and trenches – the Germans considered the Blue Line impregnable, and the height 121.4 (12 kilometers from Krymsk) was their most important defensive object. From it, a panorama of all the surroundings was opened, the advance of the troops was visible, so especially fierce battles were fought for this height of the “Blue Line”.
