Now the capabilities of the complex make it possible to simultaneously provide medical care to more than two thousand patients.
For a year, treatment in medical complex more than 20 thousand people with coronavirus passed through Kommunarka. Specialists have conducted more than 3.7 million studies and over 1,100 different operations. Read the mos.ru article about the year 2020 for one of the main medical institutions in the capital.
Main Coronavirus Hospital
The construction of the complex began in 2017. Commissioning was scheduled for spring 2020. However, in connection with the spread of a new coronavirus infection, it was decided to redesign the hospital ward building to accommodate patients with suspected COVID-19 and a confirmed diagnosis. Thus, the hospital in Kommunarka became the first and most famous coronavirus hospital in Russia.
In just a few days, sanitary checkpoints and sluices appeared here, dividing the ward building into “clean” and “dirty” zones. The largest multidisciplinary hospital equipped with modern equipment has become a real flagship in the fight against COVID-19.
In the first three weeks of operation, the hospital received over 500 patients. March 24 complex visited Russian President Vladimir Putin. The head of state personally checked the level of equipment of the clinic and the comfort of patients. Based on the results of the examination, he noted the high quality of the work of the hospital staff.
In the newly opened hospital, everyone became infectious disease specialists, regardless of their medical specialty. According to the chief physician Denis Protsenko, at that time there were no reliable diagnostic methods and clinical recommendations for the treatment of coronavirus infection. Therefore, the necessary experience had to be gained while working with patients.
“The new experience was to be gained simultaneously with the treatment of thousands of patients and the processing of statistical data. Common approaches were developed in working groups – both Russian and international, in which our doctors also took part, ”said Denis Protsenko.
In total, 802 beds were deployed in the clinic. In October in Kommunarka opened reserve hospital for 1249 beds. It houses the largest resuscitation and intensive care unit with 330 beds.
Additional capacities turned out to be extremely relevant last autumn. The city managed to avoid re-profiling many hospitals to work with coronavirus infection, which continued to receive patients routinely even against the backdrop of a sharp increase in the incidence of COVID-19.
Today, the capabilities of the complex in Kommunarka make it possible to simultaneously provide medical care to more than two thousand patients. At the same time, according to Denis Protsenko, there is no difference where the patient is – in the main building or in an additionally built hospital. All types of examinations and therapies, necessary medical equipment are equally available to every patient of the hospital.
At the hospital, the laboratory service was also operating at full capacity. More than 2.25 million studies were performed for the hospital, and the rest for other medical institutions in the city. Also, during the year, Kommunarka’s doctors not only treated their patients, but also shared their experience with colleagues from the regions of Russia. The specialists went on business trips throughout the country and abroad.
