The construction of the complex began in 2017. Commissioning was scheduled for spring 2020. Thus, the hospital in Kommunarka became the first and most famous coronavirus hospital in Russia.

City and university: which clinics treat patients with coronavirus

In the newly opened hospital, everyone became infectious disease specialists, regardless of their medical specialty. According to the chief physician Denis Protsenko, at that time there were no reliable diagnostic methods and clinical recommendations for the treatment of coronavirus infection. Therefore, the necessary experience had to be gained while working with patients.

“The new experience was to be gained simultaneously with the treatment of thousands of patients and the processing of statistical data. Common approaches were developed in working groups – both Russian and international, in which our doctors also took part, ”said Denis Protsenko.

In total, 802 beds were deployed in the clinic. In October in Kommunarka opened reserve hospital for 1249 beds. It houses the largest resuscitation and intensive care unit with 330 beds.

Additional capacities turned out to be extremely relevant last autumn. The city managed to avoid re-profiling many hospitals to work with coronavirus infection, which continued to receive patients routinely even against the backdrop of a sharp increase in the incidence of COVID-19.

All types of examinations and therapies, necessary medical equipment are equally available to every patient of the hospital.

At the hospital, the laboratory service was also operating at full capacity. More than 2.25 million studies were performed for the hospital, and the rest for other medical institutions in the city.
