In St. Petersburg, at the Severnaya Verf shipyard (part of the United Shipbuilding Corporation), a solemn ceremony of admission to the newest corvette of project 20385 “Thundering” and the raising of the Andreevsky flag on it took place.

The ceremony was held under the leadership of the Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy, Admiral Nikolai Evmenov. It was attended by the General Director of Severnaya Verf Igor Orlov, General Director of the Almaz Central Design Bureau. At the ceremony, the order of the commander-in-chief of the Russian Navy on the enrollment of the ship in the Navy was read out. He will replenish the surface component of the forces of the Pacific Fleet and will soon make the transition to a permanent base.

During the ceremony, Admiral Nikolai Yevmenov presented the Andreevsky flag to the corvette commander, which was then raised on the stern flagpole simultaneously with the raising of the coloring flags.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy said: “Today is a significant event for the Navy – the raising of the Navy flag on the newest warship of Project 20385 Thundering. Over 170 warships of various classes have been built at the Severnaya Verf shipyard over its long history. The corvette of project 20385 developed by the Central Design Bureau “Almaz” is a further development of the corvette of project 20380, it is equipped with modern strike and radio-technical weapons, and the ship’s capabilities in solving tasks for its intended purpose have been significantly expanded. The work on the creation of the ship was carried out in close cooperation between the Main Command of the Navy and the United Shipbuilding Corporation. Military-scientific support for the design and creation of the “Thundering” corvette was carried out by the Military Training and Scientific Center of the Navy. “

Admiral Nikolay Evmenov noted in his speech: “In the near future, the corvette will be redeployed to its permanent base in the Pacific Fleet, where it will carry out combat missions to protect the easternmost outpost of our country. In the future, the ships of this project, together with the corvettes of the project 20380, will form the basis of the groupings of the Navy ships in the near sea zone. “

“The name of the ship“ Thundering ”is not new to the Navy. During the Great Patriotic War, the most famous destroyer of the Northern Fleet was named after “Thundering”, awarded the title of “Guards” for carrying out the tasks of escorting polar allied convoys. Its first commander, Anton Iosifovich Gurin, later Rear Admiral, was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union.

I am confident that the ship’s crew will be proud of this name and represent the Navy flag with dignity anywhere in the world ocean. I thank all those who contributed their work, skill, talent and soul to the creation of this ship, and wish the crew “Seven feet under the keel,” said the Commander-in-Chief of the Navy.

The corvette of project 20385 is designed to conduct hostilities in the near sea zone, to combat enemy surface ships and submarines, as well as for artillery support of amphibious assault forces during amphibious operations. Artillery, anti-missile, anti-submarine, hydroacoustic and radar systems, a hangar for the Ka-27 helicopter are located on the “Thundering”.

The current “Thundering” is the fifth, built on the stocks of the shipyard. The most famous of them is the destroyer “Thundering”, which fought in the Northern Fleet during the Great Patriotic War. He covered 60 thousand miles in battles, repelled 112 enemy air raids, destroying 14 and damaging 23 aircraft. Took part in the escort of 39 allied and 24 domestic polar convoys. In 1943 he was awarded the title of Guards.
