The Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy, Admiral Nikolai Evmenov, accompanied by a working group of the High Command of the Navy, the leadership of the Severnaya Verf shipyard and the central design bureau Almaz, examined the interior and combat posts of the newest corvette “Thundering”, which was today accepted into the Russian Navy in St. Petersburg.

At various stages of the bypassing the ship, the Commander-in-Chief of the Navy was reported on the introduction of innovative solutions in the design and construction of the corvette.

Also, Admiral Nikolai Evmenov held a meeting on board the corvette, which was attended by representatives of the United Shipbuilding Corporation, Severnaya Verf, representatives of cooperation enterprises involved in the construction of the corvette “Gremyashchiy”. The issues of further development of project 20385 corvettes, including life support systems and weapons, were discussed.

The Commander-in-Chief of the Navy noted the high maneuverability of the “Gremyashchy” corvette, as well as its large modernization stock.

“We will continue to interact with the United Shipbuilding Corporation, other enterprises and cooperation organizations. The scientific and technological progress of the creation of warships and naval weapons does not stand still. We must keep pace with the times and in many directions ahead of time in the field of serial construction of ships in the far sea zone, “said Admiral Nikolay Evmenov at a meeting that took place on board corvette “Thundering”, adopted today in the Russian Navy.

The corvette of project 20385 is designed to conduct hostilities in the near sea zone, to combat enemy surface ships and submarines, as well as for artillery support of amphibious assault forces during amphibious operations. Artillery, anti-missile, anti-submarine, hydroacoustic and radar systems, a hangar for the Ka-27 helicopter are located on the “Thundering”.

The current “Thundering” is the fifth, built on the stocks of the shipyard. The most famous of them is the destroyer “Thundering”, which fought in the Northern Fleet during the Great Patriotic War. He covered 60 thousand miles in battles, repelled 112 enemy air raids, destroying 14 and damaging 23 aircraft. Took part in the escort of 39 allied and 24 domestic polar convoys. In 1943 he was awarded the title of Guards.
