The Advisory Panel on COVID-19 Vaccines appointed by the Chief Executive held its first meeting today.
Chief Executive Carrie Lam met panel members before the meeting and thanked them for providing expert and objective advice for approving vaccines.
At the meeting chaired by convenor Prof Wallace Lau, the advisory panel was briefed by the secretariat on the various relevant statutory requirements under the Prevention & Control of Disease (Use of Vaccines) Regulation, including the factors which the Secretary for Food & Health must consider before authorising a COVID-19 vaccine for emergency use and the role of the advisory panel.
The meeting also discussed the advisory panel’s modus operandi, including the guidance for application for authorisation of vaccines and the information that must be submitted by the applicant.
The guidance on the information that the applicant must submit will be uploaded to the Food & Health Bureau’s website for reference.
The bureau said the Government will strive for the early supply of vaccines to Hong Kong and ensure that the vaccines satisfy relevant requirements and procedures, as well as obtain emergency use approval in accordance with the regulation to ensure the safety, efficacy and quality of vaccines.
The Government’s work will be premised on openness and transparency to enable the public to access the relevant information on vaccines, it added.
