Schoolchildren from the first to the 11th grade, as well as students of Moscow colleges will go on long vacations.

The winter holidays of Moscow schoolchildren will last until January 17, 2021, Sergei Sobyanin said on his blog. This decision was made to contain the spread of the new coronavirus infection.

In the fall, similar measures helped to reduce the growth rate of morbidity among schoolchildren. Children are less likely to transmit the virus to elderly relatives for whom it is especially dangerous. The share of the older generation among COVID-19 cases then decreased from 25 to 16 percent.

“However, in December, the epidemiological situation deteriorated significantly again. The number of hospitalizations has been growing for three weeks in a row and on some days it is very close to two thousand people. This, of course, is of great concern. At the same time, the New Year holidays are ahead, which will objectively help slow down the spread of the infection, ”the Moscow Mayor wrote.

Experts believe that 11 days off is not enough to significantly affect the increase in incidence. In their opinion, the pause should last at least two weeks.

Based on their recommendations, Sergei Sobyanin signed a decree according to which the vacations of students from the first to the 11th grade are extended by a week – until January 17, 2021. Together with schools, colleges, institutions of additional education for children and sports schools under the jurisdiction of the Moscow Government will go on long vacations. The same was recommended for non-state educational institutions.

There will be no distance learning during the holidays. Children, at will, can repeat the passed or study new material with the help of the project “Moscow Electronic School”…

Students in grades 6-11 are on distance learning from October 19 until the end of the year. This organization of the educational process reduces the risks of the spread of coronavirus infection. Primary school students attend school, but they can also switch to distance learning if one of their classmates is sick with coronavirus.
