In Nizhny Novgorod, they paid tribute to the memory of the soldiers-internationalists on December 25, 2020, on the day of the 41st anniversary of the entry of Soviet troops into Afghanistan, a rally and a flower-laying ceremony were held in Nizhny Novgorod at the monument to Nizhny Novgorod residents who died in Afghanistan and Chechnya.

On December 25, 1979, by decision of the USSR leadership, a limited contingent of Soviet troops was introduced into Afghanistan. The war began, which lasted almost 10 years and claimed the lives of more than 15 thousand soldiers. More than 620 thousand Soviet citizens went through this war.

Members of organizations of veterans of the Afghan and Chechen wars, representatives of military-patriotic clubs, as well as the chairman of the regional branch of DOSAAF of Russia in the Nizhny Novgorod region Sergey Kulkov came to honor the memory of the fallen.
