The event was attended by Politburo member, Secretary of Party Central Committee (PCC) cum Head of the PCC’s Commission for Mass Mobilisation Truong Thi Mai; and Party Central Committee member cum Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam; along with representatives of the leaders of ministries, departments, branches, and central and local organisations.

More than seven months after launching the second “Scientists of Farmers” programme, the organising board selected 68 outstanding scientists, including 14 women and 54 men, who have made great and valuable contributions to the development of the country’s agricultural sector. The oldest is 92 years old and the youngest is 30 years old.

In particular, there are 24 scientists with Doctor of Science degrees who have made many contributions to the agriculture sector and famers’ lives. Together with the scientists who are working in institutes, schools and research centres, 14 “amateur scientist” farmers were also honoured at this year’s event. The inventions and initiatives of “amateur scientists” have been recognised and widely applied in the community, bringing practical benefits to society.

At the ceremony, on behalf of the Party and State leaders, Politburo member Truong Thi Mai and Deputy PM Vu Duc Dam presented certificates of merit and medals to 68 agricultural scientists for their many achievements in the agricultural development process in Vietnam.
