WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Representative Antonio Delgado (NY-19) voted with colleagues on both sides of the aisle to pass the Caring for Americans with Supplemental Help (CASH) Act of 2020. This legislation would increase the amount of money people receive in a second round of direct payments to $2,000.
“Many folks across upstate NY are in dire need of economic assistance to provide for their families and make ends meet. This need has only intensified as the pandemic stretches on,” said Rep. Delgado. “I am glad to join my colleagues in voting to support the CASH Act, which increases economic impact payments to $2,000 per person. I will continue to advocate for individuals and families who face immense struggle while we navigate this global health crisis.”
The CASH Act increases the value of the Economic Impact Payments (EIPs) provided in the end-of-year COVID relief package so that each eligible family member receives $2,000, up from $600. Under this bill, a family of four would receive $8,000 in direct payments. The bill also ensures that dependents over the age of 16 qualify as recipients, and would allow families with dependents over the age of 16, who did not receive assistance for their dependents under the CARES Act, to apply a credit towards their 2020 tax returns.
