Washington, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Deb Haaland (NM-01), voted to pass the CASH Act which would increase direct COVID economic impact payments to $2,000 for families across New Mexico and the country. Last week, Congress passed a bill that included emergency coronavirus relief and an omnibus package to save the lives and livelihoods of the American people. After President Trump previously negotiated lower stimulus payments, he then announced he would support $2000 stimulus payments last week. The House presented a standalone bill that would increase stimulus payments from $600 to $2,000.
“I will always vote to bring more relief to New Mexico families during this challenging time. I know what it’s like to struggle to make ends meet and the torture folks feel when deciding which bills to pay and how they’re going to put food on the table. We’ve been fighting for this for months, and finally, the President came around after he blocked negotiations since summer. These direct checks are in urgent need for working families, and I urge the Senate to do the right thing and pass the bill so it lands on the President’s desk as soon as possible,” said Congresswoman Deb Haaland.
