December 28, 2020

On December 18, 2020, the government council determined that, based on the assessment of the epidemic situation and the capacities in the hospitals in Uri and the region at that time, the operators of ski areas in the canton of Uri could not be granted a permit December 2020. This decision is valid until tomorrow, Tuesday, December 29, 2020.

The government council reassessed the epidemiological situation in the canton today. He considers the prerequisites to be met in order to be able to authorize skiing in the canton of Uri. Especially because from today’s perspective there is enough hospital capacity available. The government council has commissioned the health, social and environmental directorate to grant the operators of the Uri ski areas the operating license from December 30, 2020.

The permits are granted upon observation. A substantial deterioration in the epidemiological situation and free capacities in the hospitals in Uri or in Central Switzerland as well as changes in the legal framework at federal level would require a reassessment. This in turn could lead to the withdrawal of the operating license.

The operating licenses are associated with capacity restrictions: For the Eggberge, Biel, Ratzi, Unterschächen, Haldi, Gitschenen, Brüsti and Realp ski areas, access authorizations must be restricted to season ticket holders, locals (residents of the canton of Uri) and holiday guests. For the Andermatt-Sedrun ski area, in consultation with the Canton of Graubünden, there is a capacity restriction of a maximum of 8,000 guests per day. Winter sports enthusiasts are recommended to wear a helmet, to be careful on the slopes and to follow the bfu rules.

Furthermore, the government council wants to examine the requirements for the reopening of the restaurants in accordance with the requirements of the federal government. For five days, the R value for the canton of Uri has fallen below a factor of 1. If the R-value remains below 1 in the next few days, the requirements would be met to reopen the restaurants in the canton of Uri in accordance with the ordinance on measures in the special situation to combat the Covid-19 epidemic (SR 818.101.26) . The government council wants to decide in the next few days whether the restaurants in the canton of Uri can reopen from January 1, 2021.
