Psychological studies with juvenile accused and suspects in SIZO-1 are conducted by psychologists on a regular basis. One of the most effective methods for working with adolescents is art therapy.

Its goal is to work out the experiences of a person that interfere with his normal well-being and his communication with others. First of all, these are experiences that arise as a result of anxiety, fear, resentment, self-doubt, constraint, indecision in communication, inability to stand up for oneself and inability to control one’s feelings.

With the help of art therapy, specialists carry out work to identify the motivation for committing a crime, which is aimed at understanding the premises of the crime, their own actions and their consequences. The more a teenager becomes understandable for himself, the better he realizes the social danger of his behavior.

Very effective in this direction is the “Story in pictures” technique, which allows a teenager to painlessly tell about the crime he has committed, about how he himself relates to it. The psychologist, for his part, must try to accept the point of view of a minor and look at what happened through his eyes.

According to Olga Yaroshevich, senior psychologist at the psychological laboratory of SIZO-1, art therapy allows you to find and use internal reserves in order to cope with emerging fears, and then analyze them and develop other, more constructive ways of behavior. In addition, this method is considered as a means of maximum self-expression, allowing a teenager to express himself more vividly than in writing or speaking. Using art therapy techniques, the psychologist is able to provide the teenager with emotional support and inner security.
