And just like that, Christmas is over! I hope everyone, like me, ate too much, caught up with family and friends and got out and enjoyed the great outdoors. Bass Coast has plenty of amazing trails and walking tracks to try – might just help you work off those Christmas kilos!
If hitting the trails isn’t your thing, but you are looking for something fun and interesting to do – try ArtSpace in Wonthaggi. Karin Murphy Ellis’ awesome exhibition, BEAR Show is on display at the gallery until 17 January. I went to the opening back in December and it is incredible – all of the different bears Karin has created from recycled fabrics are truly beautiful – each one an individual character. ArtSpace is open seven days a week, from 10.00am to 4.00pm. Check it out.
Have you seen the incredible new mural on the side of Connell’s Bakery in Wonthaggi yet?
The artwork, created by celebrated street artist Jimmy Dvate, features frequently seen birds in the area – the Yellow Tailed Black Cockatoo and the white eared honeyeater. Jimmy’s birds are visible from hundreds of metres away and the mural definitely makes a great addition to Wonthaggi’s shopping precinct – something that is sure to become a focal point for our community. Make sure you drop by and take a look!
In some exciting news for our waterline towns, the new multisport court facility in Corinella, located at Harold Hughes Reserve, was officially opened recently, just in time for the summer holidays. The facility includes a tennis court and a multi-purpose court, which includes a netball and basketball ring, soccer goals and is line-marked to accommodate an additional tennis court. We have also installed brand new fencing and lighting. And the good news keeps coming – a similar facility at the Grantville Recreation Reserve is expected to be completed in early 2021.
Lastly, as we get ready to welcome 2021, it’s important to remember our roads are bound to be much busier over the next few weeks, with people on holiday and enjoying our incredible Bass Coast lifestyle. So let’s start the new year off right by making sure we stay safe. Happy New Year!
