Vietnam also effectively organised a discussion session on upholding the UN Charter in maintaining international peace and security, and a meeting on cooperation between the UN and regional organisations.
In addition, Vietnam also actively took part in dealing with issues at the UN Security Council on the principle of using peaceful means while advocating dialogue to narrow differences and seek solutions to end disputes and conflicts.
Vietnam’s contributions have been welcomed by leaders of the UN, countries and the international community.
Speaking at the conference, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung affirmed that Vietnam effectively fulfilled its tasks during the first year as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, helping to create a favourable environment for the country’s development while promoting relations between Vietnam and other countries.
The deputy minister also outlined major measures to continue enhancing Vietnam’s position and contributions to the UN Security Council in the future.
He called on the ministries and agencies concerned to increase cooperation and information-sharing in research and forecast so that Vietnam can fulfil its mission as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council in 2021, especially when the country assumes its presidency for the second time in April.
