The Social Welfare Department today launched the third round of a special grant to assist child care centres to tide over the financial difficulties arising from the prolonged service suspension due to the COVID-19 epidemic.

The department issued letters to all aided and non-aided child care centres inviting them to apply for the new grant, following the Legislative Council Finance Committee’s approval of the fourth-round of the Anti-epidemic Fund on December 21.

A four-month grant, starting January 2021, will be given to aided and non-aided child care centres, including those attached to kindergartens for children up to 3 years old.

The grant will stay at a full-day rate at $4,000 and a half-day rate at $2,000 for each enrolled child per month or the approved monthly fee, whichever is the less.

Child care centres that have not applied for the special grant before or have only started operation after September 2020 may also apply in this round.

The grant amount per centre will be based on the number of children enrolled as at November this year.

The deadline for application is January 6.
