In five years, the number of fires in the capital has halved.

In 2020, the number of fires in Moscow has decreased by 20 percent. This result was achieved with the help of active preventive work, said the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for housing and communal services and improvement. Petr Biryukov.

“Thanks to the high speed of response of the fire and rescue units, the arrival time of which at the scene is no more than seven minutes, and the complex of preventive measures taken, the number of fires in the city this year was reduced by 20 percent,” said Pyotr Biryukov.

According to him, five years ago, about 15 thousand fires were registered annually in the capital, last year their number dropped to 9.3 thousand, and this year – to 7.5 thousand. In addition, there has not been a single landscape fire in Moscow since 2015.

Petr Biryukov said that since the beginning of the year, about 12 thousand preventive measures have been carried out, including training evacuations, raids in the private residential sector and forest park zones, fire safety briefings. This made it possible to achieve a significant reduction in the number of fires, and preventive work will continue in 2021.

Also, the head of the municipal economy complex congratulated the capital’s rescuers on their professional holiday, which is celebrated on December 27.

“The fire and rescue garrison of the capital is more than 12.5 thousand personnel, high-class professionals who, with their selfless service, have repeatedly proved that they are capable of solving problems of any complexity. More than 1.5 thousand firefighters, rescuers and volunteers take up combat duty in the city every day. Every year they save thousands of human lives in fires, road accidents and in water areas, ”said Pyotr Biryukov.
