Three-time league winner Beijing Ducks edged Jiangsu Dragon 100-95 in the ongoing 2020-2021 Chinese Basketball Association league (CBA) regular season, ending its winning drought in the latest three rounds.
Jonathan Gibson of Beijing had a game-high 32 points, plus two rebounds and three assists. Zhai Xiaochuan pocketed 18 points and eight rebounds, and Fang Shuo scored 15.
Although Beijing had an 18-point advantage midway in the third quarter, Jiangsu, who began the match on a four-gaming losing streak, narrowed the gap to one digit before the fourth quarter.
Jiangsu had a poor offensive performance in the final quarter, seeing Gibson and Fang Shuo brought Beijing an 11-3 run. Despite a stellar performance of 29 points and nine rebounds in the game, Wu Guanxi failed to help his team turn the game around.
“As we are making adjustments in recent days, it was tough for us to win this match. Hopefully, my players can boost their confidence from it,” said Beijing’s head coach Xie Libin.
In the other game played on Sunday, Zhejiang Golden Bulls fought past Guangzhou Loong Lions 108-104.
Zhejiang trailed by 71-76 before the final quarter, but an 8-2 run in the midway of the fourth quarter saw them gain the upper hand.
The two teams tied at 99-99 with one minute remaining. Lu Wenbo of Zhejiang scored on a three-point play, while Isaac Haas missed two free throws. Guo Shiqiang’s side began to use fouls tactic in the last few seconds, but Zhejiang didn’t leave its rival any chance.
