Friday, December 25, 2020, around 3:30 p.m., motorists informed the Vaud cantonal police headquarters that a traffic accident involving a car and a motorcyclist had just occurred on the A9 motorway, mountain road, between the junctions de Vennes and Blécherette. On arrival, the gendarmes found that the scooter rider, a 38-year-old Swiss national, was seriously injured. Despite the treatment provided and an attempt at resuscitation, he died on the spot. The driver of the automobile was not injured.

As part of the investigation opened by the public prosecutor and entrusted to the traffic specialists of the gendarmerie, the Vaud cantonal police are calling for witnesses in order to establish precisely the circumstances of this accident. Persons traveling on this road or who were in the immediate vicinity and who may be in possession of items that could advance the investigation are asked to contact the Engagement and Communication Center on 021 333 5 333.

The motorway was closed to traffic at the Vennes junction for the purpose of the report and could not be reopened until 00:45. The traffic was diverted onto the cantonal roads with the help of the civil protection, according to pre-established plans (“DELESTA” plan).

This event required the intervention of several patrols from the Vaudois Gendarmerie, specialists from the gendarmerie traffic unit, a STAR Epalinges ambulance and SMUR, ESU (Emergency support team), staff of the DGMR (General Directorate of Mobility and Roads) and PCI.
