Vladimir Putin: Dear comrades,

Dear veterans!

I congratulate you on your professional holiday – Lifeguard Day.

This year EMERCOM of Russia celebrates its 30th anniversary. Throughout all these years, at each stage of development, the formation of your department, one constant and key for you was one, the most important task – to reliably protect the citizens of the country, their lives, health, property from natural and man-made threats, to prevent, try to prevent their occurrence , quickly and effectively help those who are in trouble.

This responsible and difficult, really difficult service is chosen and honorably carried out by people of special temper, inner firmness and discipline, capable of acting decisively and fearlessly, acting out of a template, showing the best human qualities: mercy and responsiveness, empathy and courage.

I would like to say the kindest words to the veterans of the department and, of course, thank the entire EMERCOM team for their effective work this year: for their professionalism in eliminating the consequences of showers and typhoons in the Far East, a diesel spill in Norilsk, and other emergency situations. I would also like to highlight your participation in the fight against the epidemic of the new coronavirus infection.

The most difficult noble task that you are now solving is the organization of humanitarian aid to the residents of Nagorno-Karabakh.

I will add that over the past 30 years, the Ministry of Emergency Situations has carried out more than 500 humanitarian operations abroad. I consider this to be one of the most important and significant areas of your work. All over the world they know that Russia will help, send its rescuers and specialists to where it is especially difficult, deliver the most necessary things: food, medicine, clothing, – provide emergency medical and psychological assistance to people in desperate situations, and will do it disinterestedly , not for some political benefit.

This experience, of course, needs to be used to further improve the entire EMERCOM system. Much has already been done in this regard. Human resources and technical equipment are being strengthened at all levels, in all key links – and this is the fire service, military rescue, search and rescue, mine rescue formations, departmental aviation, units ensuring safety on water bodies, Arctic centers of the Ministry of Emergencies.

In general, it is necessary to further enhance the capabilities of the Unified State System for the Prevention and Response of Emergency Situations, to fully use the advantages of modern approaches to risk forecasting in order to minimize damage from natural disasters, fires, floods, accidents, and most importantly – to save lives, lives and health of people.

The people of our country are proud of you. I am sure that the specialists of the EMERCOM of Russia will continue to do their job with dignity. Thank you for your service.

Once again, congratulations on the Day of the Rescuer and the 30th anniversary of the Ministry. And, of course, with the upcoming New Year holidays.

I wish all employees and veterans of the Russian Emergencies Ministry, your family members, health and success.
