Conaway Commends Inclusion of Help to Farmers, Ranchers in Year-End Legislation

Washington, December 21, 2020 Washington, D.C. — Congressman K. Michael Conaway (TX-11), Ranking Member of the House Agriculture Committee, issued the following statement regarding the Omnibus Appropriations-COVID-19 relief legislation: “I strongly support aspects of this bill, including the critical agricultural provisions that will help hard working farm and ranch families. However, I simply cannot in good conscience support legislation that borrows hundreds of billions of dollars against future generations, on top of the unexpected trillions of dollars we’ve already spent this year. This bill does not put our economy on a path to safely reopening, so Main Street will continue to suffer as the self-inflicted wounds coming from extended shutdowns continue. “While I can’t support this overall package, I’m grateful that I was able to use my position at the House Agriculture Committee to provide one last influx of support for rural America. As I leave this chamber, I’m heartened to know that there are still champions for America’s farmers and ranchers among us that will keep the fight up in the 117th Congress and beyond.” MIL OSI USA News
