The Hospital Authority today said a female patient at United Christian Hospital has tested positive for COVID-19.

The 89-year-old woman was admitted to the hospital’s accident & emergency department on December 20 due to a fall and then transferred to the medical & geriatric ward for further treatment.

The deep throat saliva test arranged for her according to admission procedures came back positive and she was transferred to the isolation ward.

Six patients who had stayed in the same cubicle with her tested negative for the virus and will be quarantined for 14 days.

Staff of the accident & emergency department and the ward concerned were equipped with appropriate protective equipment and none of them are classified as close contacts.

Contact tracing is ongoing and the hospital will closely monitor the health of its staff and patients, the authority added.
