Tulip Siddiq MP, Labour’s Shadow Minister for Children and Early Years, responding to a survey by Coram Family and Childcare showing that 58% of councils expect childcare closures as a result of early years funding cuts from January, said:
“The coronavirus pandemic has pushed the early years sector to the brink of collapse.
“This survey confirms that the Government’s planned funding changes in January will push nurseries and other childcare providers over the edge. This would be devastating for young children, working families and our economic recovery.
“Ministers must rethink this misguided policy and give early years providers the targeted support they need.”
