Dear Madam President! Dear Colleagues! Ladies and gentlemen! Due to the importance of mobility for people and added value in our country as well as the scale of the investment volume, good funding for the transport sector is indispensable for shaping a sustainable transport policy, indispensable for the future of our country, indispensable for the people in our country, above all indispensable for all modes of transport, indispensable for the digitization of traffic and indispensable for broadband expansion.

Ladies and gentlemen, the versatility of Section 12 is reflected in many things, be it in the promotion of cycling, the expansion of waterways or other transport systems through to the European satellite navigation system Galileo. Thanks go to the excellent work of our rapporteurs in the Committee on Budgets, Rüdiger Kruse and Thomas Jurk. A big thank you! Many thanks also to the reporters of the Transport Committee Reinhold Sendker and Kirsten Lühmann and everyone who was involved! But above all, a big thank you to Minister Andreas Scheuer and his house! With the good work done, an excellent budget for 2021 was achieved, which I think we can all be proud of. That can be built upon.

(Applause from the CDU / CSU and the SPD)

The government draft has been discussed on a permanent basis until the clean-up meeting. A really good result came out. I will only give a few examples.

The investment ramp-up for the rail transport mode will continue in 2021. Among other things, it is about digital and highly efficient rail transport of the future and about strengthening the competitiveness of rail freight transport. Investments were also made in making train stations more attractive. This should not only get more people on the trains, but above all strengthen one of the oldest and at the same time most climate-friendly modes of transport.

A further 5 million euros will be made available for the successful BMVI initiative to equip and retrofit a turning assistant for trucks. This is an excellent thing especially for the many cyclists in our country.

(Applause from the CDU / CSU and the SPD – Dr. Dirk Spaniel [AfD]: a ban on overtaking would be more attractive!)

There is also further corona aid for the bus industry, with which coach companies hard hit by the corona pandemic can also be supported in 2021.

As of January 1st, ladies and gentlemen, the federal motorways will be administered and financed by the Autobahn GmbH under the sole responsibility of the federal government. The necessary resources are accordingly available for operation and, above all, for planning services and administration. I would like to thank everyone who has participated in this change. It is not a matter of course that the many ladies and gentlemen from the state and federal administration now go to Autobahn GmbH. Thank you very much! I wish everyone at Autobahn GmbH the best of luck.

(Applause from the CDU / CSU and the SPD)

In addition, budget funds are earmarked for renewing the fleet of commercial vehicles, for the hydrogen strategy, for strengthening electromobility and for promoting the development of alternative fuels. Here the transport sector will be able to make a significant contribution to reducing CO2 in our country.

Of course, aviation was not forgotten either. Regardless of the corona pandemic, there is support for regional airports and German air traffic control. In addition, further support services are planned for the airports that have maintained the air transport system in recent months. Thanks a lot for this!

Finally, additional support has also been received in the area of tourist waterways. That too is necessary.

In short, ladies and gentlemen, with this budget we have succeeded in leading the transport sector into the future with a stronger feel. With the targeted investments in digital infrastructure, artificial intelligence, networked and automated driving and low-emission drives, we are already shaping the mobility of tomorrow today.

Many many thanks.

(Applause from the CDU / CSU and the SPD)
