EMA recommends approval of Covid vaccine – doctors should be role models for corona vaccinations

The European Medicines Agency (EMA) recommended BioNTech / Pfizer’s Covid-19 vaccine for approval on Monday. The deputy chairman of the CDU / CSU parliamentary group, Georg Nüßlein, explains:

“It is a good thing that the EMA recommended the BioNTech / Pfizer vaccine for approval through a due process that merely speeded up the administrative process. The vaccine is therefore considered safe. Side effects such as brief headaches and tiredness were only observed in a very small number of test subjects and are normal with vaccinations. However, the question arises whether the accelerated administrative procedure should not become the standard in the EU for urgently needed medicines and vaccines.

For vaccinations to be accepted, we now need recommendations from people whose word counts. Doctors in particular are called upon to express themselves positively and to be role models. You have the highest credibility. In the case of doctors who speak up of their own accord, people should definitely pay attention to their reputation. For professors, this is particularly evident from the number and topicality of publications in internationally renowned specialist journals.

According to experts, the vaccine works against a wide range of Sars-CoV-2 viruses. Therefore, mutations of the coronavirus – as now found in England and other countries – do not reduce the effectiveness of the vaccine. So there is no need to panic because of the mutation. We still need to be careful when dealing with the virus.

Finally, we would like to emphasize again that the vaccine is scarce and vaccination will take time. So we still need a lot of patience. “
