The Buk-M3 medium-range anti-aircraft missile systems (SAM) for the first time took up combat duty to protect the airspace in the Central Military District (CVD). They are deployed in the Altai Territory.

After the occupation of the air defense missile system, the Altai formation increased its combat capabilities five times, and without expanding the staff. Earlier, the personnel of the compound stationed in Biysk underwent retraining on the Buk-M3. After that, the calculations carried out live firing at the Kapustin Yar training ground in the Astrakhan region and marched to the point of permanent deployment, where all the necessary maintenance work was performed on the complexes.

“A distinctive feature of the Buk-M3 air defense missile system is that its firepower makes it possible to hit all existing and prospective aircraft,” said Lieutenant Colonel Igor Semyonov, acting Altai air defense unit.

SAM “Buk-M3” allows you to intercept almost all cruise missiles and aerodynamic targets. The launcher carries 12 missiles, and the self-propelled gun mounts six. Distinctive features of the new air defense systems in comparison with previous versions are an increase in the carrying capacity of the chassis for a larger number of missiles, an improved control complex and protection of the crew from undermining.
