The cruisers operated as part of a tactical group of surface ships under the command of the current commander of the formation, Captain 1st Rank Igor Nikitin. The crews of the cruisers became the best in the competition in artillery shooting at sea and coastal targets, as well as in the integrated use of electronic warfare.

In addition to them, the crew of the Severodvinsk nuclear submarine missile cruiser, a helicopter squadron of a separate shipborne anti-submarine helicopter aviation regiment, a special-purpose detachment for combating submarine sabotage forces and means of submarine forces and a brigade of landing ships were awarded with challenge cups of the Commander-in-Chief of the Navy in the Northern Fleet. The crews of the large landing ships “Kondopoga” and “Alexander Otrakovsky” brought the victory to the seamen paratroopers, who made an amphibious landing on an unequipped coast in the Arctic.
