Headline: An environmentally friendly initiative to improve refining depth remains ongoing at Gazprom Neft’s Omsk Refinery
Gazprom Neft’s Omsk Refinery has begun testing process equipment at its delayed coking unit (DCU), currently under construction — part of plans to modernise the plant’s existing DCU. Once complete, these works will allow the complex to halve its environmental impacts while increasing efficiency in oil refining. The company’s investments in building this facility stand at RUB50 billion — this facility being one of the most important projects in the Omsk Refinery’s development programme, under implementation by Gazprom Neft since 2008.
[/upload/medialibrary/c62/15-1.jpg]The two million tonne capacity DCU will allow the Omsk Refinery to reduce its production of heavy fuel oil (mazut), while increasing production of motor fuels and high-quality feedstocks for the aluminium industry. Together with the plant’s other modernisation projects, this future facility will increase refining depth (the “conversion rate”) at the Omsk Refinery to 99% — the level achieved by the world’s best-performing refineries.
[/upload/medialibrary/14f/15-2.png]Hydraulic pressure testing of tanks at the future facility is already complete. Preparations are currently in hand to undertake tightness and durability testing on pipeline joints. Concurrently with this, pre-commissioning works are now underway at the plant’s substations, the commissioning of which will allow auxiliary energy- and water-supply systems supporting the production facility to be tested and launched. Separately from this, the complex also includes cutting-edge environmental projection systems, including an automated production control system.
