Nhulunbuy police would like to remind everyone to drive safely, cautiously and within the limits of their abilities this Christmas season.

With the wet season in full swing the Central Arnhem Road can be dangerous and extra care is required when using this road.

Police will be targeting drink drivers and traffic offences, especially over the next three weeks as part of the Territory-wide Operation Roland, in an attempt to reduce road-related trauma.

On the first weekend of Operation Roland, Nhulunbuy police arrested a 38-year-old man for high range drink driving. He was charged and bailed to appear in Nhulunbuy Court on 9 February 2021 and was subject to an immediate licence suspension.

Senior Sergeant Michael Milde said, “It’s not worth putting your family through the unthinkable trauma of a death caused by a traffic crash for the sake of the cost of a taxi or asking a mate to be Sober Bob. We will be very visible over the next few weeks running Op Roland to do our bit to ensure our community gets through this festive season with no serious traffic incidents.”
