Northern Territory Police have arrested a man following an alleged aggravated assault in Darwin City earlier this afternoon.

At around 3pm, police received information that two people had been assaulted on Briggs Street with an edged weapon by the offender before he fled the scene.

The two victims suffered minor injuries and were taken to Royal Darwin Hospital.

General Duties members searched the Darwin region before locating the man on Tiger Brennan Drive.

He was arrested and taken to Palmerston Watch House where he is expected to be charged tonight.

Detectives from the Serious Crime Squad are investigating. Detective A/Superintendent Mark Malogorski reassured the public there is no threat to public safety.

“Thanks to the good work of General Duties, CCTV operators and other members, police were able to effect a quick arrest.”

A further update will be provided in the morning.
