Detroit, MI – Today, Representative Brenda L. Lawrence announced a total of $1,271,980 in grant awards to the Regional Transit Authority of Southeast Michigan (RTA) by the Federal Transit Administration (FTA). This funding comes from the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act. The CARES Act, passed in March 2020, provided $25 billion to the FTA to assist transit agencies with expenses related to COVID-19. The funds will be used to support the operations of M1 RAIL’s Q Line Streetcar, which operates along Woodward Avenue in Detroit.
“I am pleased that the RTA was awarded this grant by the FTA to support public transportation expenses during this crisis,” said Rep. Lawrence. “Safe, reliable public transportation is critical for Detroiters providing essential services during this pandemic. Those who rely on the Q Line in Detroit should not have to worry about its safety or the continuity of operations.”
