President Ashraf Ghani chaired an emergency response meeting this morning at the Presidential Palace to discuss preparations to deal with the second wave of the pandemic.
In this meeting, Minister of Public Health provided information of the activities performed by representatives of the UNICEF and World Health Organization and briefed the meeting on the status of Covid-19, Oxygen supply, and vaccine distribution.
Minister of Public Health said there is a sufficient capacity and a clear plan for the storage and distribution of the covid-19 vaccine. Ministry together with the Ministry of Hajj and Religious Affairs delivered public awareness messages, he added.
Deborah Lyons, the UN Secretary General’s Special Representative for Afghanistan said their team would present a clear and integrated picture of the needs, problems and solutions at the next meeting while terming the technical evaluation conducted by the Medical High Council of Afghanistan significant.
President Ashraf Ghani stressed on corona management and said, “The current condition of hospitals is neither acceptable to me nor to the people”.
“We must be fully prepared to deal with the second wave and have clear analysis of the situation,” added the president while underscoring that existing problems of hospitals in terms of service delivery, management and hygiene must be addressed fundamentally.
Referring to the conflict-affected people displaced in Kandahar, President Ghani termed it a humanitarian tragedy and said we will provide them with the emergency assistance through the National Meal program.
He underscored that the assistance should be provided to remote areas before road closures due to heavy rainfalls and winter season.

Addressing the representatives of international organizations, President Ghani thanked them for their assistance with Afghanistan, meanwhile called for further efficiency and coordination to ensure aid effectiveness
