More than 1 billion rubles will be allocated to the Irkutsk region to reimburse the regional budget for the construction of the ice rink. The order was signed by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.

Ice Palace “Baikal” for 6 thousand seats opened in Irkutsk in 2020. The complex occupies over 50 thousand square meters. m. It is equipped with an arena with skating and curling tracks, sports, dance and gymnasiums, a conference center, as well as a hotel for visiting athletes and coaches.

It was planned to hold the world bandy championship in the ice palace, but the tournament was canceled due to the coronavirus. Now Irkutsk hockey players and skaters are engaged there.

The construction of the arena began in 2018 and was co-financed by the federal budget. In particular, in 2019–2020, more than 2.7 billion rubles were allocated for these purposes. Taking into account the new tranche, the total amount of federal funding will be about 3.8 billion rubles.

The issue was considered and approved on December 16 at a meeting of the Government.

The work is carried out within the framework of the state program “Development of physical culture and sports”.
